How To Catch a Smile

Aunt L was having fun taking pictures the other day trying to catch a smile. She decided he was being difficult and her camera was too slow. But she did manage to catch one!

Watching Uncle G sing!

Enjoying a bottle with Aunt M!

Shopping Fun

Apparently shopping with MCA and Grandma M is hilarious! Then again, you'd laugh at two people cooing and taking pictures of BA in the middle of Kohl's baby department too!

Happy 7 Weeks Baby Awesome!

It's tough being the future world overlord!
Here we are seven weeks into this awesome experiment called parenting.  Watching Baby Awesome learn and grow right before our eyes, seeing him begin to interact with the larger world, and best of all, seeing him smile as he recognizes us each morning.  It's his facial expressions that get us everytime!  From his beaming grins to his pouty lips, it's really the best thing ever!

You looking at me??

We've started working on better sleep habits this week.  BA seems to be sleeping better, which translates to MCA and CA sleeping better!  There are still rough patches, but there always will be.  He's also gaining weight at a healthy rate, making 9 lbs. This week with his two month check up coming up real soon!

Future overlords can fall asleep wherever they want.

Green Bay Visit

Quality Time with Great-Grandma B
Our little Packer owner (Oh yes, CA bought BA a Packers share when he was 12 hours old. Youngest Packers owner ever??) got to visit the Frozen Tundra! While we didn't go to Lambeau Field, we pointed it out to him on our drive by. Little BA went on his first interstate trip crossing into Wisconsin to visit Grandma B, Grandpa B, Great-Grandma B, and Aunt K.

Birthdays abound in February as MCA and Grandma B celebrated theirs this weekend with fabulous turtle cake! Yummy! Thanks Grandma B :-)

Four Generations! BA with CA, CA's father (Grandpa B)
and Grandma (Great-Grandma B)

Unfortunately Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa O and Uncle M were sick the whole weekend so we didn't get to see them! Sadness! We'll just have to make another trip up sometime soon.

It was our longest car ride yet, but little BA was a great rider. Much better than his mom was apparently!

Until next time. May your diapers be clean and your bottles full!

Outdoor Trip!

A monster hat is always fashionable!
Yesterday was so nice! The last day of January and it was over 60 degrees. So CA, MCA, and Grandma M took little Baby Awesome to an outdoor shopping center. We had lunch at Houlihan's and then spent the afternoon shopping. CA wandered around the Tesla shop hoping they actually do come out with a more reasonably priced model in the next 5 years.

Making sure BA is comfortable during lunch.
BA got a new height chart (baseball themed of course!) and helped his daddy pick out a new single blade razor and lather brush.

All in all, the outing was a great success! BA got lots of compliments and smiles as he was carried around in his wrap carrier.

Grandma & Grandpa B's Visit

Grandma and Grandpa B visited in late December and we finally got pics to post! We'll have more of CA's side after next weekend including a couple more 4 generation shots with Great-Grandma B and Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa O!

Walk Around the Neighborhood

BA got his first walk yesterday! We took advantage of the really nice weather (45 in January!) to get out and get some fresh air. His stroller from Great-Grandma M finally got some use around the neighborhood. Grandma M came on the walk with BA and MCA along with BA's faithful pup Sir Wigglebottom.

Then it got more use later in the day when Aunt L introduced him to shopping! We took a trip to Kohl's and then got ice cream at ColdStone. Well Aunt L and MCA had ice cream, little BA had to sit there and watch :-)

Baby/Daddy Time

Getting a nap in.
Hey all!  CA here.  People often ask me what it's like being a new dad.  The truth is, since he was born, all I have been is "new dad".  I'd like to think I've stepped into the role fairly easily.  Child services haven't been called, and the house is still standing, so...yeah.  BA and I have been spending some quality time together nerding it up.  We've already taken him to a video game store and comic book shop.  Get 'em early is what I say.

We've also been introducing him to good music.  Namely Clapton, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and the Muppets!  Many an hour have been spent just watching him sleep, trying to imagine the mas he is to become.  Benevolent ruler, or stereotypical super villain?  I'm at least hoping for Bond-Baddie style lair.  Hollowed out volcano or tropical island fortress.

Another thing being worked on is first words.  He's 5 weeks old, so we got a long way to go, but that won't stop me from chanting "Fus Ro Dah" in his ear over and over...

Weekend with Great-Grandma M

So this weekend little BA was visited by MCA's Grandma, Great-Grandma M. Along with her came Great-Aunt C and Great-Uncle D. We had a great time visiting all afternoon Saturday and Sunday morning.

We took the opportunity to take a great generational shot. Little BA with his mom, MCA with her father, Grandpa M, with his mother Great-Grandma M.

We'll be able to get the other side in a couple weeks when we take a trip to Green Bay to see CA's family.

Conquering Playtime

Happy 4 weeks Baby Awesome!!

Even future world overlords have to start somewhere and little BA is starting by mastering playtime! Yes our little world ruler has taken a liking to his play mat. He's already focusing on objects and has managed to scoot himself over his tummy pillow. Provided he has some traction or something for his feet to push against.

So far he's already been holding his head up and can roll and scoot himself around the mat. If this is any indication, we'll have to start securing stuff around the house sooner than we thought!

First Bath

Little Baby Awesome's First Full Bath

Because even future world overlords need to be clean!

Wet fingers are great to suck on!

Warm washcloth on the tummy to keep warm.

All dry!

A Mixed Week

Well little BA turns 3 weeks! He's getting bigger and we'll find out just how much when we visit the doctor on Friday. This week has been up and down for Family Awesome. BA had some sleeping issues like not wanting to stay asleep for longer than an hour. That made for a very tired CA and MCA. We're doing better now with a few two hour stints here and there. The biggest help is a new swing put together by Uncle Greg!

We actually got to go out to a meal together this week when Grandma M
came over to sit with BA for a while.
Of course, he actually slept for her while we were out. Figures right? He apparently likes sleeping in our arms better than in his crib. How long will this last??

While awake (which sometimes feels like all the time). BA is actively testing his vocals. He is figuring out all sorts of new and interesting sounds he can make.

We're also trying out our wrap carrier. We had a successful wrap with CA, but little BA wasn't interested at the time. He did fall asleep with MCA this morning in the wrap so we're getting used to it.

Bringing Home Baby Awesome

Baby Awesome (future overlord of the world) was born December 22, 2011 at 10:18pm. He weighed 6 lb 11 oz and was 19 3/4" long. Oh, you didn't know the overlord of the world was on the way? Let me back up a bit.

While Mrs. CaptAwesome (MCA) was pregnant, she and CaptAwesome (CA) were discussing different career paths for Baby Awesome (BA). While musing on different careers he could have they went the typical 'He could be president of the United States' path, but then decided that that was thinking too small. Besides, being president is hard and they wouldn't wish that on anyone (or any of the current Republican candidates, but I digress). So CA and MCA decided that
they would tell little BA that he (or she at that point) could do anything they wanted, even rule the world. Thus the images of our future world ruler began, and we started plotting how to help our little evil genius along in his quest.

So our little world ruler is 2 weeks old now. We're all adjusting to our new life, some days are better than others. We have finally settled in to a somewhat reasonable sleep schedule (he lets us get 3 hours in a row sometimes!!). We had a change for the better after starting to supplement his feeding. He's a hungry little boy usually taking between 2-3 oz of milk or formula each feeding. No wonder Mom couldn't keep up! BA's finally putting on the weight making the doctor and us very happy.

He's been a busy baby the past two weeks with trips to the doctor, church, Aunt Laura & Uncle Joe's, and Grandma & Grandpa M's. He's also had many visitors like Grandma and Grandpa B all the way from Green Bay. January promises to be an eventful month with more visitors and new outings! CA and I hope you'll follow along as we discover all there is to about raising a child. For instance, did you know that spit up could be projectile?? Yeah we only had to learn that one once!
